Yes! It sounds like Jon Chu is taking the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel very seriously and is trying to steer clear of its campy predecessor.

In a recent interview he shared his life-long love for the Joes, saying:

"To me, it's one of the few brands that has a soul, a multi-generational soul, where it's about what it means to be a leader in the community, in your home, with your friends, and what it means to be a leader and a hero."

As long as he skips the PSA at the end of every episode, we like his attitude. The world needs heroes now more than ever, but REAL heroes, not handsome actors making jokes as they zip around in CG "accelerator suits".

Although, we didn't mind the handsome actors, so much as the silly accelerator suits! Ha!

The director sounds like he's taking a more realistic approach to the film, saying:

"[G.I. Joe 2 is] not just another action movie. Maybe the first one was that, but we're really trying to break it down and take the shine off and show that my Joes were the ones in the mud, the sand and the trees and in the epic worldwide adventures. Each one had individual talents. So we really want to bring the experience of what I grew up with playing with these toys. What it feels like so that kids now can be reintroduced to the Joes and experience it in a different way. This is like down and dirty Joe for me."

Down and dirty Channing Tatum? We likey!

Yesterday was another rainy, cold day here in SoCal so for the most part David and I stayed in doors and under the warm covers. We did venture out last night to hang out with our dear friend Angie and her beautiful daughter Kendall who we hadn’t seen in a few weeks. Angie and I had been talking about hanging out for a while so last night was the perfect opportunity.

We made our way to Sherman Oaks, CA to meet up with Ange and Kendall at The Cheesecake Factory for a bite to eat. Kendall snapped this amazingly cool photo of me on her mom’s iPhone so I thought I would share it with all y’all:

It’s a shame that it was so wet and cold yesterday because we didn’t get much chance to hang out as much as we would’ve liked. It was really great getting to catch up with Angie … I think we are planning on another hang out session later this week. As a former DJ, Angie has got a LOT of vinyl records so we are planning a record party at my place. And speaking of … my new record player has been getting a lot of use in the past few days … I managed to pick up a bunch of really amazing records … including Mantaray by Siouxsie Sioux:

I’m not sure how long this love for vinyl phase will last but I hope for a long time. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to slow down and appreciate music more, on vinyl as much as possible. I haven’t really spent any real time getting to know albums like I used to. In this age of downloading tracks in seconds and then moving on to the next batch of songs, I have been very lax in getting to know albums. I can’t even tell you the last time I took the time to learn the lyrics of an entire album. Slowing down with vinyl will hopefully help me get back into the practice of appreciating music again.

It’s the first Monday of the New Year, I hope it’s been a good one for you thus far!!

As I understand it, the film is a political drama about dirty campaigning or something like that. I believe the dynamic is that Gosling‘s character will be working for Clooney‘s character. Whatever the case may be, the film promises that a whole lotta inter-generational hotness will be had.

I think it’s safe to say that George Clooney is still a pretty big heartthrob of the older set while Ryan Gosling is much beloved by the younger set. It’s a genius move to cast them both in the same film. I doubt we’ll get to see any exciting photos from this movie set in the coming weeks but The Ides of March sounds like an interesting film to keep an eye out for. Yesterday afternoon, David and I met up with Emma, Josh and co. for a bite to eat and hang out session at The Village Idiot on Melrose Ave. We hadn’t seen them in a while so it was nice catching up with them. We were joined by their friends Michael and Melanie and a grand time was had by all. Melrose is peppered with pretty good graffiti and I snapped a photo of this very cool Star Wars-inspired poster tacked up near the Village Idiot:

It’s cool, right? After dinner/drinks, David and I made our way to Hollywood to attend the screening of a movie that I can’t talk about just yet. I’ve written up my review and will be able to share it with all y’all in a couple of weeks. I cannot WAIT to share :D

Today David and I will be heading into the Valley to celebrate our good friend Angi’s birthday today!! It shall be a blast!

America's lost another great leader.

Sargent Robert Shriver, father to Maria Shriver and an immense patriot, has passed away. He succumbed to his long battle against Alzheimer's disease at the age of 95.

Sargent Shriver did several immense services this to country, including launching the U.S. Peace Corps after marrying into the Kennedy family as well as heading the Special Olympics.

We send out our condolences to the Shrivers and Kennedys for their loss. He was truly one of the great ones.
