It wasn’t going to be long before one of the bright stars of The Hunger Games was picked up for another movie. Today we have learned that Liam Hemsworth has been tapped to star in the new spy thriller, Paranoia, based on the Joseph Finder novel. The new film is meant to star two other big names, Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman, who are also in negotiations for various roles. Would you want to see Liam in an espionage thriller?

We don’t have much info yet about the new movie, but we do know that it is going to be directed by a relative newbie, or not so much a newbie as a non A-list director (and I mean that in the nicest possible way.) Robert Luketic is going to be directing Paranoia, and he is known for his work on Legally Blonde, a few duds such as Monster-in-Law, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! and Killers. Still, this project seems like a big one, and they are definitely aiming high with casting. It will be interesting to see if Liam, Harrison or Gary actually sign on, but Deadline is reporting that negotiations are already in the serious stage, so we could very well be seeing the gorgeous Liam in a new movie, with some older veteran actors, for him to learn from. Gary Oldman has had pretty big success from his work in the Harry Potter movies and he stars in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.

I would love to see Liam in something new again. I think he is just gorgeous and super talented and I assumed that he would be approached for new movies right on the back of The Hunger Games. I worry a bit that this mightn’t be the one for him to move onto following the mammoth success of his last role. Having said that though, if Harrison Ford or Gary Oldman were to sign on to this project then this could be a great opportunity for Liam, so… I guess we will have to wait and see. Inside TV is reporting that the producers of Californication are planning a spinoff series from their main show and have created a new character, who will feature heavily next season, with an eye to leading him/her into a stand-alone show. We haven’t met the new character, but we do now know her name (yes, it’s a she) and a little bit about her. Intrigued?

The sixth season will introduce “Faith.” She’s in her mid-to-late 20s, and described as “what happens when an innocent young Catholic school girl is exposed to the evils of rock and roll and falls heads over heels in love with the music and the men who make it.” Faith has been on the road with various bands for years and is considered a muse by some elite artists. Though she has a fondness for sex, drugs and rock and role, she remains quite religious. Faith has a nine-episode arc next season, which will premiere in 2013. At this early stage, the spinoff is by no means assured. First the producers will have to cast the right actress, then the role must connect with viewers.

I am glad to hear that they aren’t ensuring a spinoff of this new character before she has even arrived on the set. I know that using new actors to launch into stand alone shows is a bit of a trend at the moment (NCIS and Bones both did this) but it does still feel strange to me. IMHO, the whole idea of a spinoff is that it is based on a character that is so loved and well known that they warrant their own series because the audience wants it. It just feels odd to me to plan a spinoff from a character that hasn’t even surfaced yet. A newbie will probably have a hard time connecting with the audience in one season so I do wonder how this will work. Maybe they will try and nab a well known and already pre-loved actress for the role of Faith. Hmm..

I had grand plans for my Thursday night last night. I had decided the day before to take off a day from running so that I could finish watching this season of Spartacus: Vengeance, read a little and then go see Cabin in the Woods. I was successful with 2 of those 3 things. I did get to watch the last few eps of Spartacus (man, what a great season, btw) and get *almost* finished with the book Born to Run … but sadly, I did not go see Cabin in the Woods. I’m almost embarrassed to tell y’all why … but read on if you want to know.

Yeah, the bottom line is … I forgot. I knew I had the movie tickets but somehow the time got away from me. By the time I realized that I had missed the first half hour of the movie, it was far too late to make up for it. I was really bummed … so I ventured out of my house in search of a Frozen Coke … which kinda made me feel better :) Honestly, I’m not that torn up about missing the movie. I know David wants to see it and he was bizzy last night so … we’ll just see it in the next few days.

It’s raining like crazy here in LA today … thunder and lightning. We don’t get weather like this … ever. I do have to run so I’ll be at the gym later. Tonight I’m hoping to meet up with Irene, Ollie and Caleb but I also have to do laundry and pack for my quick trip to Las Vegas tomorrow. Darion and I are flying out tomorrow to see Garbage at the Pearl Theater before we fly back Sunday. It’s the weekend, y’all. Wet or Dry, I hope YOU have a great one :)
